Winter Warmers

Stop making excuses. Get out of bed.

 Winter warmers..
Oh, the warmth of the bed is so tempting on those cold winter mornings isn’t it? The fish aren’t wild but they are there, so the effort seems even more of a mission. So we roll over, send a message to our fishing buddy with some lame excuse and go back to sleep. I call it-“ pulling a Hotrod”.

However the fishing is still so good in Winter especially here in KZN, whether offshore or shore angling. So, jump out of bed, and get yourself fishing. Don’t miss out on another winter.

There are many ways to combat Winter. First thing is to be super prepared, so that you are fiddling around in the cold early in the morning. Have all your tackle packed, ski, or boat or Jet Ski loaded, so it is just a matter of jumping in the car and going. Buddy up. You should be doing this anyway but if someone is relying on you it’s harder to pull up lame and cold. Or even better get your kids out of bed and take them fishing.
Grab a coffee or tea and a good chow as this always helps to warm you up and wake you up.

Dress for the occasion. Dress warmly then you can’t complain about the cold. And also dress warmly for your fishing. There are plenty of good warm options to wear. It is easier to keep warm on a boat or on shore, but there are still lots of cold weather outfits suitable for kayak and Jet Ski fishing that will keep you sufficiently warm.

And really, in this lovely country of ours, particularly on the coast and the KZN Coast especially, the days get warm quickly even in winter. So watch those weather reports. Soldier through a bit of early morning cold and you will be greatly rewarded with some beautiful winter days on the water.

Of course you won’t spend as much time on the water in winter so use the ‘off’ months wisely to get ready for the Spring and Summer seasons. Tie traces, service reels, service boats and Jet Skis, and get organised. But don’t let that be your excuse to not go fishing. Just use your time wisely.

So what is your excuse? Warm up and Go Fish. You will regret coming out of hibernation with no fish if you don’t.
