Pro Tip- Dropshot for Kob

Whenever you are going after a specific species, and you need sound advice you want to chat to a guy who is on the water more often that you hit the jazz, and Ray Thompson is that guy. Ray is always such a wealth of info when it comes to any type of fishing and Kob just happens to be his thing.
Ray takes us through his various dropshot rigs.

Rig 1
Ray – This lure is called a mimic, the drop shot is clearwater plastic mainly fished during the daylight hours. The hook is called a powerlock and it’s got a screw on it that you screw onto the front of the lure. You fish it with a sinker that you can change the weight on, from a one ounce to a three ounce you can throw this quite far. Around rocks this lure is no problem to fish with.
RIG TWO
The hook is called a Mustad Big Mouth Bass hook, and we use a fastcatch worm weight to it, anything from a ¾ to 1.5 ounce. This colour is fished best at night time and over the sand.
RIG THREE
The next mimic, the orange and yellow is called The Hot One. We use it with a Mustad bullet head with a 6/0 or 7/0 hook and this colour works extremely well at night.
RIG FOUR
This is a standard shad jig head and the dropshot is a Mustad Prorex, and this colour is fished best at night in dirty water.
THE SET UP
Daiwa 10ft6 heavy BG 3 piece rod, paired with a Saltist 4000 reel with 20lb braid on it. The fluoro that I use is the Kingfisher and is usually anything from 14 to 20kg depending on the conditions I am fishing.
